Healthy Woman
Men and women have different nutritional requirements and so Herbalife has designed some products that are tailored towards one or the other but it should be noted all products can be used by both sexes. For example, women are more susceptible to osteoporosis and therefore are advised to ensure adequate calcium but calcium is also important for men too.
Herbalife has created two products within the Healthy Woman range:
Xtra-cal
Tang Kuei and Chamomile Tablets
Let’s look at osteoporosis; its a condition that causes thinning and weakening of normal bone. The definition of osteoporosis is a decrease of the density of bone mass. When this occurs, a patient with osteoporosis will have weaker bones and have a higher risk of bone fracture.
There are two main categories of osteoporosis, Type I and Type II. Type I osteoporosis occurs only in post-menopausal women, and is due to oestrogen deficiency. Type II osteoporosis occurs in both men and women (about two times more frequently in women), and is due to aging, and calcium deficiency over many years.
What causes osteoporosis?
As people age, the amount of bone in their body steadily decreases. Women are especially prone to developing thin bone because they don't develop as much bone while younger, and the rate of bone loss in women is greater than men.
Other factors that can put people (women in particular) at risk from Osteoporosis:
• lack of calcium
• hormonal deficiency (oestrogen in particular)
• lack of physical activity
The most important time to get an appropriate amount of calcium is between the ages of 14 and 24, when peak bone mass is obtained. Then after that bone continues to develop until about age 35 to 40, at which time the bone mass that a woman has will strongly determine how much at risk she may be for bone fractures in her later years. . In pregnant and lactating women, the rate of bone loss will temporarily increase if the increased calcium demands of pregnancy or breastfeeding are not met by increased dietary intake of calcium. In women, there is also a significant decrease of bone mass in the immediate postmenopausal period.
The recommended intake of calcium is 1,000 mg (1g) of calcium daily, and then increase their daily dosage to 1,500 mg (1.5g) post menopause.
Sadly, only an estimated 25% of women in any age group consume the recommended daily amount of calcium to guard against osteoporosis. And when they go on diets and weight loss programs, they tend to consume even less.
Women of childbearing age are susceptible to muscle aches associated with pre menstrual tension. Many of our clients have found that Tang Kuei can help relieve some of this pain without the use of over the counter medication.
